Buckskin Mare 3-29-02 to 6-8-09
We lost Ashley to an acute large colon twist, 42 days post foaling. (There is such a large displacement after foaling that there is the possibility the colon will go back in the wrong place and can twist.) Ashley was our favorite mare. We rode and took her everywhere. Her last trip was to a packing clinic up in Klamath Falls, Oregon in May. The local Morgan club up there, Mountain Magic Morgan Horse Club, sponsors a booth at the packing clinic to promote the Morgan horse. I've taken a mare and foal there for the last several years. The children love petting the foals and watching them nurse etc. Ashley would just take in the crowd, loudspeakers etc. and didn't even mind the balloons tied on the children's wrists bobbing around her head as they petted her foal. This year they were definitely a crowd favorite since it seems everyone was attracted to such a pretty buckskin mare and her handsome buckskin colt. Ashley was the result of the cross of our two favorite horses, our stallion Blacksaddle Starbuck and our favorite riding mare at the time, Tov Cristina Caminos. This was a cross of a Marvelous Ideal grandson to a Marvelous Ideal daughter Ashley was definitely the feminine version of her sire, Starbuck. Everyone loved her pretty head and flashy good looks and they were always asking if she was for sale. Her biggest asset was her personality. She adored people and loved to greet farm visitors. As a foal she would take walks with you away from her dam. Ashley left us a gorgeous buckskin colt by Marvelous Intrigue that we named Baymount's How Marvelous. Howie for short. He is a combination of so many of our favorite horses and his personality reminds us so much of her. Thanks Ashley for a wonderful 7 short years together. We miss you but your spirit lives on through your son.
